Facebook takes advantage of the controversy in which Tik Tok is involved to launch its new feature Reels, on Instagram.
Tik Tok, which belongs to the Chinese company Bytedance, was censored in India, and a few days ago US President Donald Trump issued a decree to prohibit its use in the United States since the president presumes that the Chinese company uses the app for espionage and invasion of privacy.
China has 45 days to sell this app, otherwise, it will not be able to operate in the United States anymore. So far, Microsoft and Twitter are interested in buying it. In light of this controversy, Facebook has taken the opportunity to launch the Reels function which makes it a direct competitor of Tik Tok, already available in more than 50 countries.
With Reels, you can record your video, edit it, make speed changes, add music, include filters, and make use of your creativity.
Do you know what it means for Tik Tok to stop operating in the United States?
According to HypeAuditor, the USA is where there are the largest TikTokers influencers, followed by India where it was already censored as I said before, then Turkey and Russia. In other words, TikTokers in the USA will be affected and Tik Tok would be left without more than 20% of the influencers who have earned a reputation with this app.
Tik Tok is the first non-American application that is among the top ones, globally. This year it reached 2 billion downloads, of which more than 165 million were made from the US, according to the analysis firm Sensor Tower.
How does Instagram Reels work?
Instagram Reels is a very simple function to use:
- Touch the camera button located in the upper left, you will find the Reels at the bottom of the screen next to Live and Story options.
You start recording whenever you want, you have the option to choose the soundtrack by touching the music symbol button, where you will see several options that will allow you even to cut the audio if you require so for your video.
- The following function allows you to adjust the speed of your video, there are default options, so you can choose the ones you like the most. You can also add filters, effects, and timers to your video.
- You can start creating happy and entertaining videos immediately! If you want you can keep the record bottom pressed until the end or you can release it and press it again until you get the snapshot you want. This will depend on your creativity.
If you decide to make stop motion, then Reels lets you use transparency located on the lower left side, which shows you the last frame of your recorded video, so that you can adjust your camera and you can continue it without being noticed. After this, it only remains to upload your Reels.
